A Recap from the 2018 NSC Congress & Expo
At Stronghold Safety Engineering, we’re passionate about sharing knowledge and excitement from the latest safety events, including the 2018 National Safety Council (NSC) Congress & Expo. This conference is the world’s largest annual event for safety, health, and environmental professionals. Each year, exhibitors showcase industrial safety products and services that are necessary to stay at the forefront and provide a competitive edge in the industry.
Each year, the NSC Congress & Expo gives professionals access to information on the latest products and services for general safety, hazard controls, fall protection, and personal protective equipment. Professionals attend this safety conference for industry-leading technology, education, and networking opportunities. And this past year, the NSC Congress & Expo provided an ample supply of all three!
2018 NSC Congress & Expo
The 2018 NSC Congress & Expo was held in October—with the Congress being from Oct. 20-26 and the Expo from the 22-24. While educational opportunities started early, the opening session was held on Monday with keynote speakers Deborah A. P. Hersman, President and CEO of the National Safety Council, and ADM William H. McRaven, USN (Ret.). Each day was filled with several sessions about various topics and had different speakers.
A few of the speakers included:
James Dorris, Vice President Environment Health & Safety, United Rentals
Lydia Boyd Campbell, Chief Medical Officer, IBM
Michelle Garner-Janna, Executive Director - Corporate Health & Safety, Cummins
Jack Jackson, Senior Safety Consultant, SafeStart
Terry Mathis, CEO, ProAct Safety Inc.
The topics discussed in these sessions were highly related to safety and how to use the information provided in your own business. Many of the speakers not only shared their own experiences and how they achieved success in safety, but also new trends and technologies organizations are beginning to adopt in this new era.
The Expo part of the event is where exhibitors can showcase their products and services to attendees. In its fourth year, the New Product Showcase is an area to view the latest advancements in the safety industry. This year, there were three winners for the best products.
Winners of the New Product Showcase:
Kimberly Clark Professional: Maverick™ Eye Protection - The first eyewear created for the KleenGuard™ Brand delivers confident protection without compromising on style or comfort.
MSA: MSA V-EDGE™ Self-Retracting Lifeline (SRL) - Engineered and tested for foot-level tie off, V-EDGE SRL can be used in a variety of applications—from overhead and horizontal tie-off points, to where sharp edges are a concern. Its retraction dampening feature controls the speed of the lifeline, preventing unwanted damage, and its internal components can be replaced on-site to reduce repair downtime.
Werner Co.: MaxPatrol Leading Edge SRL Line - Approved for use over steel beam, precast concrete, and b-deck. This product minimizes fall arrest distance to less than 24 inches when used overhead, and features impact-resistant polymer housing with a swivel top.
