The primary responsibility of the Mechanical Design Engineer is to design and implement custom machine guarding solutions for industrial manufacturing equipment from concept through delivery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•Design and implement cost effective guarding for customer machinery from initial concept and fabrication drawings to installation and customer review and sign-off.

•Identify technical challenges and seek creative solutions by drawing on available resources.

•Understand project requirements and ensure that all engineering drawings and documents are complete, organized and understood by the project team, including subcontractors.

•Facilitate saving, organizing and retrieving engineering drawings in the Vault storage system.

•Assist with qualifying vendors and procuring machine guarding components for projects through vetting and bidding process.

•Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding project status, resource requirements and potential obstacles to success.

•Participate in onsite assessment and guarding concepting and provide onsite installation supervision and training as required by project specifications.

•Communicate with customers and vendors regarding design questions and modifications.

•Work with Project Manager (PM) to develop and meet schedule deadlines.

•Work proactively, with minimum supervision, to complete projects on time and within budget.

•Travel required for the position is approximately 25-50% in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Experienced Professional – Bachelor’s degree, Mechanical Engineering required. Five years of mechanical engineering or related experience in industrial settings preferred.

• Proficient in design of guarding for industrial machinery, perimeter guarding, point of operation guarding and custom safety solutions.

• Experience in preparing engineering documentation including assembly drawings, bills of material, fabrication/weldment drawings and operator and maintenance manuals.

• Extensive experience with SolidWorks solid modeling and design software.

• Ability to troubleshoot complex installations and create effective solutions in an efficient and accurate manner.

• Ability to accurately budget time and develop cost estimates.

• Demonstrated attention to detail.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to listen well and communicate effectively and professionally with individuals at all organizational levels.
